Hand-Forged Knife & Marlin Spike Set
Made by Nathan.

Two traditional tools, forged by a sailor for a life of useful work.

A knife and a marlin spike have long belonged together in a sailor’s kit. One cuts; the other opens rope strands for splicing and helps work stubborn knots loose. Simple tools that earn their place aboard.

If you watch the show, you already know Nathan. A Lady Hawk crew member with a longstanding passion for forging, he’s putting the same care he brings to the restoration into tools for other sailors.

The knife is hand-forged from industrial log-boom chain, with a local arbutus handle shaped for a comfortable grip. Brass pins secure the wood, and a small piece of local sea glass adds a detail from the coast we call home.

The nine-inch marlin spike is forged from reclaimed industrial marine-shackle steel. Its faceted shank tapers to a smoother, rounded point for working between rope strands, with an eye at the top for a lanyard. Good tools deserve to stay aboard.

Made by hand in our shop, each pair will vary in grain, glass and finish. These aren’t made from material removed from Lady Hawk. Their connection is to the people restoring her: every purchase supports Nathan’s craftsmanship and helps fund the ship’s rebuild.

A working pair, with a story behind them and more work ahead.

The set includes
• One hand-forged knife, approximately 8 inches / 20 cm overall
• Local arbutus handle with brass pins and a sea-glass detail
• One hand-forged marlin spike, approximately 9 inches / 23 cm
• Faceted spike shank, smoother rounded tip and lanyard eye
• Both made by Nathan; individual details and finishes vary
