Hand-Forged Marlin Spike
Made by Nathan.
A traditional working tool, forged for sailors who intend to use it.
A marlin spike helps open the strands of rope for splicing and work stubborn knots loose. Versions of this simple tool have served sailors and riggers for centuries, from small sailing boats to great ships. This is the beginning of our own range of tools for sailors who still hold fast to tradition.
If you watch the show, you already know Nathan. A Lady Hawk crew member, he brings a longstanding passion for forging to our restoration. With Kaleb overseeing the shop, our new forging setup is giving that skill more room to grow.
Under Nathan’s guidance, we’ve already made reefing hooks to help with Lady Hawk’s deck work. Now he’s putting the same care into tools you can put to work aboard your own boat.
Each nine-inch spike is hand-forged from reclaimed industrial marine-shackle steel, drawn out into a faceted shank that tapers to a smoother, rounded point for working between rope strands. An eye at the top takes a lanyard, because the bottom of the harbour is a poor place to keep a good tool.
These aren’t made from material removed from Lady Hawk. Their connection is to the people restoring her: forged in our shop by Nathan, with every purchase supporting his craftsmanship and the wider project.
Something made by a sailor, for another sailor. Ready for a life beyond the workshop.
